A new boiler will not only offer fuel efficiency and reduce bills but will be more environmentally friendly

1. Why are new boilers more efficient?

Today’s modern boilers run more efficiently for a number of reasons, the main one being that they are all condensing boilers. A well-maintained boiler uses fuel very efficiently, but heat will escape in the hot gases that are emitted up the flue. Condensing boilers have larger heat exchangers, so more heat is recovered sending cooler gases up the flue therefore being more efficient.

2. Installing a new boiler

We can help you choose the right type of boiler. Older gas and oil burners have separate hot water tanks that store the household hot water. When thinking about a new boiler there are two options to decide from, a regular boiler or a combi boiler. A combi boiler heats water as it is required rather than storing water in a tank; this means a hot water tank is no longer needed

3. Regular Boiler or Combi?

A traditional boiler is more efficient than a combi boiler at producing hot water but the downside is that some heat is lost from the hot water cylinder, so a combi may be more efficient overall. Some options to consider are:

A large family using lots of hot water could be better off with a traditional boiler. Households with less people may find a combi boiler the best option.

If there are space considerations combi boilers have the benefit of not requiring a water tank so can be the best option for smaller spaces.
